Mary Kae Wood, 79, of Grayville, Ill. died Friday, Nov. 29 at her home. She was born Sept. 12, 1940, in Albion, Illinois, the daughter of Amel and Roberta (Jacques) Reid. She was married to Richard Wood on Christmas Eve, and he preceded her in death in 2013.
She graduated from Grayville High School, married Richard, and they lived in San Diego, Calif., while Richard served in the Navy. They later lived in New Lenox, Ill., where she was a volunteer for the school system and served as a playground supervisor and crossing guard. In Grayville, she worked for Spartan Manufacturing. She was also a Boy Scout leader and attended Browns Christian Church in Browns, Ill., and a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Mary was considered the affectionate “Adoptive Mom” to her sons’ many friends.
Survivors include sons Rick (Kathy) Wood, and Randy Wood, all of Grayville; grandchildren Kyle Wood, Steven (Jez) Anderson, Stevie (Austin) Higgins, Alisha Wood and Marisa Wood; and several great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister Linda Reid Elliott; and brother Fred Reid.
Visitation and funeral were Sunday, Dec. 1 at Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville. Visitation was at 1 p.m. and funeral was at 2 p.m. with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville.
