Mabel E. Harper, age 87, of Millstadt, Ill., passed from this life to the next on Sept. 28, 2019 at her home.
Mabel Elizabeth Harper was born in Albion, Ill. on Sept. 4, 1932 to Oscar and Ethel G. (Smith) Harper. She was born in the Edwards County Jail building during the time her father was the Edwards County Sheriff. At that time, the sheriff and his family lived in the jail building.
Mabel graduated from Edwards County Senior High School in 1950 where she had worked on the school yearbook staff under the leadership of Miss Bonalyn Chism and David L. Hart. After graduation, she lived for many years in Cincinnati, Ohio where she worked in the offices of Procter and Gamble. She was a faithful and active member of the church all of her life. After retirement, she moved to Millstadt, where she was an active member of Christ Church. Mabel will be remembered by her family and friends for her humorous nature and quick wit.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Donald Harper and Bernard Harper; and five sisters: Maxine Pursley, Ruth Brook, Gail Perry, Hazel Spann and Doris Green.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as her special friends and caregivers, Corrine Kirby and Sharon LeCrone of Millstadt.
In keeping with Mabel’s wishes, her body was cremated and there will be no funeral services. Private burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Albion.
