Arrol P. Stewart, 77, of Albion passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 18 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. Arrol was born on July 19, 1944 to R. F. (Jack) Stewart and Marie Fritz Stewart in Evansville, Ind. He graduated from Edwards County High School and continued his education earning a Business Administration degree from the University of Evansville.
Arrol served in the United States Army as a Lieutenant for the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division of the 199th light infantry Brigade during combat in the Viet Nam War. He was a proud veteran and a great American who was willing to lay his life on the line for both his country and the men under his command.
Arrol spent his career after the Army running the family business, J. F. Stewart and Sons Grocery in Albion. This store had been passed down from father to son since 1875. He was a good and compassionate businessman, who continued to give to his community by serving on the Albion city council throughout his retirement, as well as the Albion Medical Board.
Arrol was preceded in death by both of his parents; his brother, Finley Stewart and his beloved wife, Jan. Arrol is survived by sons, Jeff (Roberta) of Fairfield and Jason (Kelley) of Albion and daughter, Jennifer of Fairfield. He is also survived by four grandchildren who loved and adored him and brought him his greatest joy: Hunter, Baylee, Campbell and Parker. He is also survived by sister, Sally Stewart of Louisville, Ky. and brother, Jack Stewart of Evanston, Ill. He is also survived by a great number of friends who also loved him dearly.
As per the family's request, memorials may be made out to the Fairfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church, The Albion Public Library, or the Albion Fire Department. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at noon in the sanctuary of the Fairfield Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.
