Matthew R. Brands, 37, of rural Albion

Matthew R. Brands, 37, of rural Albion, Illinois, died Monday, April 15, 2019, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.  He was born August 1, 1981, in Joplin, Missouri, the son of Michael and Glenda (Helm) Brands.  He was married to Stacey (Yahl) Brands and she survives.

Matthew graduated from Ozark Christian College in 2004, and he was the minister of  the West Village Christian Church in rural Albion.  He was an avid fan of Star Wars movies, D.C. Comics superheroes, and movies in general.  He was a history buff focusing on World War II.  Among his other pastimes were playing drums, watching basketball games, cooking and being a jokester.

Survivors include his parents Michael and Glenda Brands of Bethel, Missouri; wife Stacey Brands; son Titus Brands; daughter Grace Brands all of Albion; brothers Daniel (Sarah) Brands of Macon, Missouri, Nathan (Kelsey) Brands of Brownstown, Illinois; grandmother Joyce Helm of Jenks, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews Allysha, Ethan, Isaiah, Avalyn, and Jameson.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents Robert Helm; and Gerald and Elsie Brands.

Visitation is 4-8 pm, Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at West Village Christian Church in rural Albion.  Funeral is 11 am, Thursday, April 18, 2019, at West Village Christian Church with burial in West Village Cemetery next to the church.

Memorials may be made to the Grace and Titus Brands Scholarship Fund and will be accepted at Cook Funeral Chapel who is entrusted with all arrangements.
